Strange Aeons / In Search of Sanity pt. 9 / Eire the 5th, 3592 CE / 10-15-19

General Summary

In the aftermath of the battle with the hungry flesh, Esp rejoins the party, seeing there is little more she can do for the moment to aid the survivors in the chapel. Before she does however, a young boy named Brendon Liebkin asks her to search for his little brother, Denis. Esp promises to do so, but holds out little hope for the boy's survival. After the door to the survivors' barricade is shut and barred behind them, the party decides to proceed through the double doors that lead deeper into the interior of the Stonebriar Asylum. They enter the asylum's library, and note with growing trepidation the musky scent of some sort of animal, and the sight of books that have been pulled from shelves and shredded by teeth or claws. Kneeling to examine one more closely, Haskell notices that a tunnel has been burrowed through the back of the bookshelves that line the walls of the library. The hole, large enough for a tiny creature, has been dug right through wood and stone. That's when books begin raining down on the party. The assault is coming from bizarre ratlings, ratlike creatures with hands and faces like humans. The sight of the weird, eldritch beings unnerves Rorgrim so much that his mind begins to snap. This is not helped when one of the ratlings uses its dark magic to summon a swarm of rats. Despite the chaos that this creates, the party is able to dispatch two of the ratlings, the third escaping through one of their burrowing holes.
