Strange Aeons / In Search of Sanity pt. 3 / Eire the 4th, 3592 CE / 8-13-19

General Summary

Six strangers with no memories of their past or their identities are exploring the southwest hall of Stonebriar Asylum, hoping to appease the former inmates who now guard what may be a place of refuge within the nightmare stricken insane asylum by presenting proof of their good intentions in the form of the bodies of former doctors and orderlies who have somehow been transformed into monsters. The strangers have taken on nicknames in order to more easily identify each other: Fatman, Shorty, Red, Batman, Kingfisher, and Glaive Guy. Red and Fatman have just opened a door to a boiler room, where they are attacked by two vicious dire rats. The party slays the rabid creatures, but as they move on to investigate other rooms, Shorty notices something glowing from behind the pipes in the boiler room. When she peers in to get a better look, a tiny magical creature called a zoog leaps out and attacks her. Several party members take turns tussling with the creature, who speaks in Aklo, an alien and disturbing language that continues to assault Fatman's senses until he gradually acclimates his mind to the harsh syllables. The creature makes reference first to someone called the "shepherd of the hills," and later to the "tatterman," though only Glaive Guy and Kingfisher understand its language. Shorty discovers that she has psychic abilities that allow her to subjugate the bizarre creature, allowing the party to slay it. As they continue to move down the hallway, they discover a pair of storage rooms, one of which has become the home to a pair of large centipedes!
