Strange Aeons / In Search of Sanity pt. 7 / Eire the 4th through the 5th, 3592 CE / 9-17-19

General Summary

Having been granted access to the Chapel of Accuris that serves as the primary base of the Stonebriar refugees, the party attempts to make themselves useful. Batman heals a woman named Airynn who was injured by falling masonry and a boy named Yorick who was found near the library covered in bites. He then joins Red in helping prepare food for the survivors. Esp uses her psychic influence to calm a patient named Loren who is hallucinating the voice of his long-dead sister. And Fatman and Glaive Guy go with Denman Winepress to break down a desk in Father Serakian's office to use as firewood, but not before discovering the dead priest's secret cache of magic items. Winter is pleased with the party's efforts to pull their weight. She says they are welcome to stay in the refuge of the chapel, but warns that supplies are on the verge of running out within a matter of days. She asks the party to attempt to investigate deeper into Stonebriar Asylum in order to find some way of ending the madness that has infected it, and the party agrees. That night as they sleep, they each find themselves in a place they remember from their past with a mentor who reveals their true names: Haskell Vorsicht, Esp Platyrhynchos, Hemlock Shores, Rorgrim Coppermane, and Yew. They awake after what feels like days have passed, having spent the interim dream time training and preparing. Seeing that Kingfisher, who has not learned his own name yet, is suffering from the effects of ghoul fever, Haskell attempts to provide some aid, and then advises Esp, who has volunteered to stay behind and continue helping the suffering patients, to keep an eye on the mysterious man in case his condition worsens and he becomes a threat. Winter leads the four remaining party members back to the curtain, where she reveals what lays behind it, an enormous ghastly eye growing like a fungus over the door leading to the asylum's main entryway. The soft weeping they heard earlier seems to emanate from the fanged mouth found at the center of the eye's pupil. After trying to communicate with the manifestation does no good, the party goes for a full frontal assault and attacks the bizarre anomaly, leading to it fighting back with fangs and acid.
