Strange Aeons / In Search of Sanity pt. 4 / Eire the 4th, 3592 CE / 8-20-19

General Summary

The party have just opened a door to a storeroom in the southwest hallway of Stonebriar Asylum and come face to face with a pair of giant centipedes that have burrowed into the room. While Shorty, overcome with her unnatural fear of bugs, attempts to barricade herself in the adjacent storeroom, Glaive Guy and Fatman proceed to dispatch the oversized vermin. Red and Batman hear the sound of voices from further down the hall, and one of the voices, a female, sounds familiar to the dwarf. While Batman recovers manacles and a chain from the second storeroom, Kingfisher is astonished to spot himself crossing at the end of the hallway and passing through a door. The party recalls that when they were tracking the maniacal Ilsa from the basement, one of the guards at the barricade told them they saw the Kingfisher run down this same hallway. The guards' leader, August, had also mentioned that the creatures they must hunt in order to prove their right to pass through the barricade can change shape. The party moves toward the end of the hallway, where a collapse has blocked further passage. As they pass by a collapsed wall, they can see into what was once an office, where a monstrous grey humanoid dressed like a doctor has assembled corpses of both humans and his fellow creatures and has been stripping their skin in long strips. He accuses the party of interrupting his "experiment," and a fight breaks out, but the group of six have the upper hand, and work together to quickly fell the mad doctor, though Red does receive a nasty claw wound. Kingfisher suggests they interrogate their prisoner, and as Batman uses the manacles to bind and a healing spell to revive the monstrous physician, Red moves to end of the hallway to investigate the body of a woman trapped in the collapse who appears to still be moving. As he pokes the body with a stick, he is horrified to watch as the corpse bursts apart, the viscera entangling his legs while its hands and head attack him under some sort of supernatural control. Kingfisher, Fatman, and Glaive Guy spring to the dwarf's aid, destroying the animated body parts. The party interrogates their prisoner, who identifies himself as "Doctor Latchkey," and goads them about their inferior status. He reveals that the strange curse that seems to have come over Stonebriar Asylum may be linked in some way to a place called the Dreamlands, a name which conjurs up memories for both Fatman and Shorty. The party decides, at Glaive Guy and Kingfisher's suggestion, to execute Doctor Latchkey in front of August and the guards at the barricade in order to ingratiate themselves, but at that moment, Latchkey begins calling for "Ilsa." The door behind Kingfisher opens, revealing the mad female doctor they have been pursuing since leaving the Asylum's basement.
