Strange Aeons / In Search of Sanity pt. 5 / Eire the 4th, 3592 CE / 8-27-19

General Summary

While exploring the far end of one of Stonebriar Asylum's ruined hallways, the amnesiac adventurers fought and defeated the corrupt and insane Doctor Latchkey who had been turned into a doppelganger. Now as they interrogate him and decide his final fate, the door behind Kingfisher swings open, revealing the vicious Ilsa, the doctor whom they initially encountered in the asylum's basement. She claws at Kingfisher, wounding him, but Red is able to bring her down swiftly with his mighty axe. From the room beyond, the dwarf can see a man and a corpse chained to a wall. The man is dressed in yellow robes with a yellow flame painted on his forehead. He appears quite insane, repeating the same three phrases over and over again. The corpse beside him keeps moving, as if being pushed. Red notices all the flesh has been stripped from the corpse's arm, and decides to deal with the prisoners first. The party drags their prisoners back to the barricade, but on the way, Latchkey transforms into a young woman with dark hair and mismatched eyes. When the guards see them approaching, they demand the party release the transformed Latchkey, referring to him as "Winter." An argument ensues, and when their leader, August, is called out, he in turn goes to seek the woman Winter, who appears to be a part of their group. Winter returns with August and confirms her own identity when the doppelganger is unable to identify Winter's chosen deity. The party executes the two insane doctors, once again hearing the strange whispering of names in their head, "Lawrence Keys," and "Ilsa Scanlan." Having proven themselves, the party finds they are now welcome to join the group on the other side of the barricade, but Kingfisher points out that they left a man hanging in chains from a wall. They return to the drying room, where it is revealed that on the other side of the corpse is a feral man with inhuman features who has been gradually eating his way through his fellow prisoners. Opening the door at the far end of the drying room reveals the wash room, which has obviously been used for more vile surgeries, and is divided in two by a curtain. Opening the curtain reveals the corpses of more humans and monsters, as well as what appears to be an unconscious old woman on a table. When Batman attempts to rouse her, she reveals that there is something that terrifies her in the far washtub. While the party investigates the room, the old woman reveals her true form, another of the monstrous doctors. A fight breaks out and she viciously wounds Batman and Fatman, revealing that she has the power to mesmerize her opponents with her gaze. From the other room comes a cry of pain from Kingfisher and moments later, another name passes through the party's heads: "Norman Gage."
