Languages in Animia

A variety of lanugages are spoken in Animia; while several of them do have corollaries in the base rules of D&D, not all do. You can add custom languages to your proficiencies in D&D beyond.
Common - Common is a pidgin language, dealing mostly with prices, descriptors, and everyday items. It is not suitable for communicating complex ideas or feelings, and people in the world have varying proficiency in it.
Kernish - Kernish is the predominant language spoken in southern Pelagria. The language is named for Kernia; Kernia was the first southern region to overthrow their elven rulers. All residents of modern Kernia speak one of two dialects of Kernish: common or formal. In Amank common Kernish is primarily the language of trade and of the common people there. Kernish is a truly human language with no known ties to Elvish or Dwarvish.
Erglesh - The language spoken by the nobility of modern Amank, historically belonging to the island peoples of the Sea of Erin. It is derived from Elvish and heavily influenced by Kernish.
Vewali - Vewali refers the the family of language spoken in Zhuna. Regional dialects can be distinct, but due to the significant amount of cooperation among the peoples of the region, most speakers understand other languages within the family.
Elvish - Spoken by all people in the elven nations. Some dialtects of elvish are also spoken in remote corners of the world. There is some recognizable connection between Elvish and Dwarvish.
Dwarvish - Spoken throughout the The Raegarian Empire. The language is rigid and there are few dialects, and those that do exist vary minimally. The strict social order of Raegarian society discourages significant linguistic variation. Dwarvish and Elvish are noticeably related.
Draconic - a language that seems to have very little in common with other Animian languages, Draconic is spoken almost exclusively by Dragonborn. Dragonborn most often know Dwarvish as a second language, and often speak a third language based on how close they are to other language groups.
Nyodek - Nyodek is spoken by the northern kingdoms of Pelagria, and seems distantly related to elvish. Dialects can vary widely across the kingdoms, but the significant amount of conflict and commerce that occur between these nations means most folks understand dialects outside their own. An ancient dialect of Nyodek is used by spellcasters and lore keepers. Many northern citizens also speak Elvish and/or Gaelen.
Gaelen - Gaelen is the language of Shalia, spoken primarily by the halflings, gnomes, and those they trade with.
Orcish - Orcish refers to a number of dialects spoken by groups of orcs and half-orcs that roam the world. These dialects are all creole languages, combining a distant ancestor language with local languages. This likely occurred as a result of historic discrimination against and ostracization of Orcs.
Infernal - the language of demons. While Tieflings are rumored to inherently speak infernal, this is in reality a racist stereotype.
Celestial - the language of the gods; this is also the priestly language. Different religious traditions each have their own distinct dialect of celestial (Ylemic, Raegarian, Elvish, and Shalian)
Sylvan - Sylvan is an ancient language spoken by The Eternal Circle, the Incana, and several other groups who carry on ancient mystic or nature-based traditions.
