Amank (AH-mank)

Amank is located in the Southwestern corner of Pelagria. The land is rich and the country prides itself on its agriculture. Amank is a feudal kingdom who is often at war with its eastern neighbor, Kernia, and thus the border between the two nations has been shifting for centuries; the Kerns are envious of the rich farmlands of Amank. 150 years ago Kernia successfully invaded its western neighbor and successfully occupied it until the 5E 2857, when the Amankian resistance revolted and started a war of independence that lasted ten years. Kernia finally agreed to peace in 5E 2867. Amank gained much Kernish land in the agreement as reparations for over a century of occupation.   The capital of Amank is Erinsport; an island located in the Sea of Erin. The western end of the island is notable for its salt marshes that slowly give way to dryer land upon which the capital city sits.   The king of Amank is said to be a descendent of the Amankian ruling family, exiled in 5E 2751 after the Kernian conquest. He served as the figurehead for the rebellion and proved himself a more than capable commander. The king now rules from Erinsport with a court made up of the priests of the 5 temples and, controversially, a representative from the college of wizards north of the Redsoil Desert, who were instrumental in securing victory during the war.   Amank’s northern border is the Redsoil Desert, an inhospitable wasteland characterized by it’s red sand and rocks and a curse that prevents anyone from traversing it. All trade from Amank and Kernia must thus make its way north by sea, largely through port cities around the Sea of Erin.   Off the western coast of Amank sit two archipelagos, one large island, and an enormous coral reef known as the Great Reef of Aman (ancient warlord who founded Amank, according to legend). The island and the southern archipelago are heavily wooded, while the northern archipelago is characterized by long expanses of scrub grass and sand dunes. The chains of islands offer significant protection from invading forces, as do the Shortspire Mountains beyond them.   The southern coast consists of long, uninterrupted stretches of beach and wide bands of sand dunes. The coastal cities are significant access points for trade from southern Omeria, as the Great Reef of Aman off the western coast makes trading any farther north a risk most ship captains are unwilling to take.
