Cathedral Woods

The Cathedral Woods are a vast range of ancient redwood forests that entirely dominates the western half of the nation of Ellondoth. Their eastern edge is at the foot of the mountain range of Amon Alarion, at the southern tip of which lies the sacred Vale of Galadras.   The name of these lands is one of the few details known about Ellondoth to other nations of the Heartlands, having been let slip by High Queen Elaweth in discussion with an Egean envoy. Apparently the name comes from the great size of the local redwood trees, which extend in endless rows in all directions. Towering above other vegetation, the redwoods seem to form a natural architecture of repeating skyscraping pillars, reminiscient of the grandest cathedrals built my mortal hands.   The high elves themselves know these woods as Namarierin, which translates to Woods of Farewell. It is an ancient name even by Ellondothan standards, harkening back to the days when the Sidhe retreated from Amanor into the mirror dimension of Tír-na-nÓg. Leaving their elven descendants behind the Faerie Lords departed the Vale of Galadras and wandered past the mountains of Amon Alarion to Namarierin, disappearing amidst the trees.
