Tir Galad

The White City

Tir Galad is the capital city of Ellondoth. It is a sprawling metropolis that covers leagues upon leagues of land, divided into disctricts each more fantastical than the last. From spires and terraces covered by living forest, to pavilions built over waterfalls and streams, to gargantuan palaces wrought from luminous crystal, the White City is home to a diverse population of high elves from all circles of their society.   The city is located in central Ellondoth in the sacred Vale of Galadras, where the fey ancestors of all elves first taught their wise ways to their mortal children. To the north-east lie the ancient lands of Galadrond, to the north-west rise the peaks of Amon Alarion, to the south lies Silvarond, to the east Elvain Imloth, and in the west stretches out the vast wildland of the Cathedral Woods. The central location of the city is, of course, nowadays largely inconsequential due to the free availability of teleportation magics to all citizens.   Due to the lack of centralized administration in all aspects of Ellondothan society and the immediate availability of all services via the Weave, Tir Galad remains the capital city of the nation is symbolic function alone. It was the seat of power for the imperial High Luminarchs of ages long past when Ellondoth vyed with other warlike empires for the right to rule Amanor itself. The Divine Calamity brought an end to those evil times, and despite the Eternal Shame still suffered by Ellondothans to this day for the acts of their ancestors, Tir Galad has retained its popularity as a physical community.
Below: In the lower districts of the city, beneath the boughs of ancient oaks and redwoods, the high elves maintain numerous magical sources of light. This is not only for the comfort of the people but also to provide light for the plants of the forest. Such diversification of environments is referred to by the high elves as "natural design" and it gives rise to otherwise impossible natural conditions.

Below: Despite the deeply naturalistic attitudes of contemporary high elves, some districts of Tir Galad have such highly developed features such as pavements, statuaries and carefully kept parks. Often these districts have been built underground so as not to claim space from the natural flora and fauna above ground.
