Makawee Wasula is a self taught mage and performer, who specializes in the magic art of Kinetomancy, specifically through the use of light (healing) magic through song, prayer and performance. Residing in Astoria, she comes from a long lineage of religious family members as well as a society who all worship mother nature and her ideals, herself included. However, she struggles with accepting one of the main ideas of Astoria: That death should not be feared, but instead celebrated. And unlike most Astorians, Makawee despises this idea due to the loss of her sister.
Desperate to save her sibling, she discovers the art of healing magic through prayer, and proceeds to pray every waking hour to mother nature in hopes of healing her sister. Unfortunately, those prayers go unanswered. Now grieving and desperately trying to re-seek a connection with her, she dives into alchemy mixed with her own blood in an attempt to bring back her sister from the dead. However, her fears surrounding death and her religious upbringing is an obstacle preventing her from performing the alchemy properly, resulting in her own health falling into a steady decline as a consequence of these experimentations of her own blood.
Lost and discouraged, she drops all alchemy magic and refocuses her attention back on strengthening her healing magic to attempt to prevent any further deaths- including slowing down her own. In the end, she ends up reverting back to her spiritual roots, finding that the only method of comfort left is the idea that her sister is a part of nature, and as a result, a part of mother nature. She now finds a renewed purpose in protecting the lives of others as well as her own, and easing the pain of others through her performances. With each performance she does, the more her magic thrives, and thus, the more it manifests within her to cure and save her own life.
