Cosmium Material in Alore | World Anvil

Cosmium

(Legacy Content)
Cosmium is a strange metal-crystal hybrid material that is known both for originating from beyond Alore's atmosphere and for its immense magical properties. The crystals only ever seem to fall to Alore in small slivers within incredibly dense interstellar rock shells. However, there was a single occasion where a large chunk of Cosmium fell nearby Sarigos-Prime and was brought to the hands of Orthoni Gut-beard. Orthoni, being a craftsman, fashioned the chunk of material into a power source for one of his creations: the Stelluric Comet Cannon.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Cosmium appears as shards of metallic crystal of primarily black coloration, speckled with free-floating white dots in the crystal structure, and almost always with a large reddish-orange sphere in the middle.  Cosmium possesses an absurdly large capacity for storing and channeling Maijure, allowing it to fuel exceptionally powerful magic devices. When this effect is combined with a Maijurium focus, its effects can be even further magnified.    Additionally, Cosmium is exceptionally durable, though given its primarily magical properties and the insane rarity of the material, it is more often used for its Maijure amplifying capacities.

Geology & Geography

Cosmium can only be found within crashed meteors that originated from beyond the Alorean Solar System, and even then incredibly rarely. The strange nature of this very specific condition has led many mystic scholars to speculate as to the magical nature of worlds beyond their own, and if this material is proof of other life beyond Alore.

Distribution

Storage

Cosmium has a propensity to randomly disperse fractions of stored cosmic Maijurous. As a result, Cosmium must be stored in containers with interiors lined with inch thick Maijurium coatings to absorb that energy, then changed out when required.
