Calador is the crown jewel of the empire and home to the Saladyne family. The city sits on the battlefield that marked the turn of the tide in the Sun Shield War. What was once a small crumbling keep is now a small but impressive palace surrounded by an ever-growing maze of streets and buildings.

Government

Unlike other large cities throughout the empire, Calador is directly controlled by the Emperor. The laws and taxation of Calador are the standards for all the other cities in the Empire.

Defences

Being the capital of the empire, Calador is potentially the most fortified location in all of Saladyne. There is always a few ships from the Dawn Fleet located here as well as a small battalion of Radiant Sentinels. Calador also has the highest number of Dusk Guard due to the fact that this is where they train.

Industry & Trade

Being the capital of the empire, you can find a small bit of every industry in Calador. Here industries such as art, education, and entertainment thrive.

History

The crown jewel of the Saladyne empire was not always this good. During the Sun Shield War, there was nothing but a small, decaying keep with no name. It was here that the Heroes of the Sun and their small militia stood what was then their final stand as the forces of the Fallen King converged on them. As the walls crumbled into rubble against soldiers of the Fallen King, a massive army comprised of the remaining city-states and unified by the words of Adrian Saladyne rode in from the hills behind the soldiers. This new army, led by Syra Vylimor, turned the tide of the battle and marked the first significant victory for the Heroes. After the war, Saladyne returned to the crumbling keep to make it his home. The city then formed as more and more people and businesses began to call the area home. Thus the capital city of Calador was formed.

The Fall

During the War of the Five Gods, an unknown monster brought down death and fire on the capital in the middle of the night on Tlu the 2nd of Dryro, 671. Nearly 530,000 people died during the attack and the following days as the fires raged on and the city began to fall around them. Fortunately, the Imperial family managed to escape the danger and relocated the seat of power to Thorncrest. Since then the ruins of Calador have become a place filled with desperate survivors, monsters and fires that burn as fiercely as they did when the city fell.
