Arcania

One day...One day this darkness that plagues the world shall be no more. And on that day this town, Arcania, will be the most important city on Aloran. For it is from Arcania that magic shall flow back into the world!   -Arcania Founder Dorvull Creldac on the one year anniversary of the city’s founding.

Government

Run by the Prime Concilium, a council of 13 magic users, who controls the military/police force of the city and are responsible for creating laws and settling disputes.

Defences

As the world outside the Acor Sea turned more against magic The citizens all began working on defenses for the city. After 6 years, the work of every citizen capable of magic, and the aid of an ancient dragon they managed to craft 3 stone golems to guard the city. The stone golems, which have been named Mage Titans, are roughly 1600 feet in height and they are made to look like the three founders of the city. They also constructed four sets of 13 smaller stone golems that are roughly 10 feet tall. These smaller golems, called Mage Guard, are there as soldiers in case of attacks and to assist the Justiciar in any experiments gone wrong. With the exception of the northwestern island, each island has their own set of Mage Guard. There is also the Arcania Justiciars. They are skilled magic users trained in combat and with magic that can ensnare an enemy.

Industry & Trade

Now that the reign of the Purifying Blade has come to an end and magic is slowly returning Arcania has opened up to the world once more. The industry of the city is solely magic. The trading or selling of magic items, services or raw magic itself makes up the bulk of their economy.

There are five bridges that connect the islands to each other.

There are several minor factions throughout Arcania but the major three are the Justiciars, the Sigil Circle and the Conservatory of Higher Arcana.

History

Arcania was founded During the late Crystal Age by three magic users who saw the signs of the coming storm. The founders are the Half-Elf Warlock Alros Rixian, Dragonborn Sorcerer Dorvull Creldac, and Halfling Eldritch Knight Sylyra Fayne. The city was built onto the pillar islands called the Hand of Maldune in the middle of the Acor Sea. The purpose was to build a safe haven for magic users to conduct their experiments and other magical pursuits in safety. Once the Tal Moorell began to appear corrupted and the Purifying Blade started to gain popularity many magic users or those were affiliated with magic users fled to the forming city. They decided to keep the city secret so they sent agents to go out and find people they thought were worthy. It was around this time that the three founders went missing on a mission and the first Concilium was formed. It was formed to protect and govern the city in place of the Founders. The Concilium is comprised of not only the most powerful magic users but the people who can use their magic in the most effective way. To find those who are worthy of a seat on the Concilium an intense competition called the Tournament of Choosing. A chair is only opened when the previous member dies. The first act of the original Concilium was to establish the Arcania Justiciars, the military and police force of the city. As the world entered the Silent Age, many people fled to Arcania which caused the secrecy of Arcania to end. Once the Warriors of the Purifying Blade discovered the location of Arcania ( around 430 S.A.) they launched a campaign to tear down the city. After hundreds of attempts over the course of 1500 years, The Blade made no progress. The rough waters, dangerous sea life, magically controlled weather, and the Mage Titans often destroyed fleets before they were able to make it and the ones that did were met by the angry forces of the Arcania Justiciars. After 1500 years they settled with maintaining a blockade around the as much of the sea they could manage.

Architecture

The city of Arcania is built on top of and inside 5 pillar-like islands that rise out of the Acor Sea called the Hand of Maldune. Structures scale the outside, inside and between the 5 islands. The original structures were made from stone due to their lack of resources but now that they are no longer isolated they have made newer structures out of wood. Older structures are often adorned with warding or sigils for protection in case of invasion while the newer ones are more decoratively created and adorned.

Geography

The city lies in the Acor Sea on what is known as the Hand of Maldune. The Hand is five large islands that rise several hundred feet out of the waters like pillars in a room.

Natural Resources

The only publicly known natural resources of Arcania is fish and another sea life since the deep waters surrounding the Hand is abundant with life.
