Kírans

The kírans¹ are a tribe of mixed human and dwarven ancestry inhabiting what's left of Múrtún, a small city originally built by the ancient Katargysians in northwestern Gysikan.

History

The kírans were originally nomads living on the Arakrí Plain between Góalanis, Gysikan and Nemirkía, where they raised cattle, hunted, and fought using spears tipped with polished magic crystals. They often bought colourful cloth and dried fruit in exchange for allowing Góalanics to pass through their land on their way to and from Goldensands, but during the fall of the Paþarían Empire and especially the orcish invasions in Góalanis the kírans migrated south to Gysikan.
The katargysians of the city of Múrtún offered the kírans gold and a place to live in exchange for defending their homes from invading tribes (ancestors of the Lerdíkans and Nússans), which the kírans accepted and managed to stave off the invaders by using local weapons and arms.
Most of the dwarven population -already in decline due to a plague- has since died out or intermarried to the kírans. Much of Múrtún's underground section is in ruins, so the inhabitants live in huts on the surface within or around the fortified entrance, beyond which they raise sheep and cattle.

Apparel

Before they settled in Gysikan, kírans wore little more than oxhides fastened as cloaks, though chiefs and some warriors wore colourful tunics made of cloth bought from traders. Most kírans still wear oxhides along with woolen tunics, both of which are often adorned with gold embroidery, buttons or plaques.

Cuisine

Kíran diet consists mostly of meat and dairy products, originally exclusively from cattle but now includes sheep as well. Millet and millet beer are bought from Lerdis to some extend, the millet is either used in flatbread or porridge.
