Alberpase

The so called "tree of peace" is a massive magical tree in the north-central part of Ciello. The tree sits in the narrowest part of the Alder pass, blocking it entirely with its trunk. A tunnel wide enough for wagons has been cut through the trunk of the tree to allow passage north to south.
The Tree is considered sacred on Cielllo. Some even worship it as a divine entity. A temple to Iona, a goddess of growth and wisdom has been built in the tree's branches.
Fighting is prohibited by religious law and long tradition in the area "within sight of the tree's roots". This injunction has rarely been broken, despite the strategic importance of the site.

Geography

The Mitza Mountains dominate central Ciello. Tall, rugged annd inhabited by hostile tribes of giants, goblins and a menagerie of monsters they are effectivly impassable to any large group. This the Alder pass is vital to overland travel from north to south on Ciello. The Alberpase is thus situated on one of the most important and well traveled sites on the island. 
The pass itself is rather lush. From between the roots of the tree a spring flows, which constitutes the beginning of the Enna River. The spring is of religious significance, and a small shrine to the spirit of the river sits on the site.
