Alba

Alba is a small settlement in the Albanmarsh. Outsiders generally know it as the stock setting for Ciellan horror stories; and as the source of the island's blackpowder. Production of gunpowder is the town's lifeblood. 
The town is part of the Barony of Alba, which is a hereditary fief of the Madruzzo family. However, the family has not resided in the town for many decades. Prefering instead to live in their more pleasant holdings in nearby Merata.

Government

Formally the town is subject to the Marquess Madruzzo. However, he rarely visits the town. In his absence a castellan exercises authority in his name. The administrator of the Ducal Powdermill also exercises considerable authority since the mill employs around two thirds of the town's population. In addition various "Elders" also act as go-betweens between the civilized townfolk and the savage feyfolk which everyone knows live in the Albanmarch.

Infrastructure

The town is built on raised platforms and some few solid islands in the middle of the Albanmarch. There are no stone buildings in Alba. Even the temple of Sol is made out of wood (although painted to look like stone). The largest area of the town are the Ducal Powdermills, where gunpowder is produced.
