The German People's Party

The German People's Party or The DVP is a political party within West Germany (The German Empire).

History:

The German People's Party was a successor, to the National Liberal Party, a party within The Empire that collapsed in 1918. During the Weimar Republic, the party promoted a Constitutional Monarchy along with mixed stances of Liberal and Conservative idea's. While they disapproved of the Weimar Republic, they decided to work within the system.

After successful the Kapp Putsch, The DVP negotiation with Wolfgang Kapp's leading him to spare the party so long as they did not criticize the government. At, first the party agreed, however as the German Civil War worsened and Kapp's increasing in crackdowns toward's opposition parties, The DVP began to struggle to say silent.

By 1921, the party became more critical to the point in June 1921, Kapp shut down the party, arresting its leader Gustav Stresemann leading to its quick ban. Wilhelm III the current Kaiser was alarmed by his action's, and thought The German National People's Party martial law was going as far, it was in the monarchy's best interests to lift it.

For the rest of that year, The Kaiser tried to talk Wolfgang Kapp into ending martial law and finally restore the empire's constitution, which would restore a limited form of democracy while the Kaiser would still hold large power.

At first Kapp, refused, believing a permeant monarchial dictatorship could be best for Germany. However, quickly after the civil war entered a ceasefire with an unknown fragile end date, resistance to martial law intensified both internal and external. Wolfgang Kapp caved, and lifted martial law on 1st February, resulting in Gustav Stresemann being released, and the party was quickly reestablished.
