Vand Corp

One of the largest businesses running out of Golden Falls and certainly one of the top 10 Terran businesses of the current day and age.

Vand Corp is a galactic wide drug trade for all manner of medicines. They trade with everyone, from the Terran Nomothetic Collective to the Osiryx Federation, and even Osyr Medical Aid. Beneath the surface of their charitable exterior they also deal in the illegal drug trade through redistribution.

A Family Affair

Started in 6867 UGY by Morgan Vand as a legitimate business endeavour. However, Morgan Vand found it difficult to compete with some of the other drug distributors, so he had to look elsewhere for an additional source of income. He paired up with a couple of illegal drug suppliers, offering to help redistribute to areas of Osiron that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to access, in exchange for a cut of the money.

Vand proved his worth quickly to these suppliers, and the additional boost in income helped to bolster Vand Corp above the competition. He married one of the suppliers - Helena - and their children and grandchildren would eventually take over the Vand Corp mantle.

Though their ties to the illegal drug trade would still haunt them, it would eventually fade into such an obscurity that only conspiracy theorists would believe the rumours. That would make it extremely difficult for the Terran Nomothetic Collective to investigate the corporation in the years to come.

Friendly Front

The passing of the torch from Morgan Vand to his daughter, Elena Vand, would see public opinion of Vand Corp rocket to sky high levels. She redirected the public opinion of Vand Corp to focus on the family and the very likeable personalities of the Vand family, rather than focusing on the dealings of Vand Corp.

They opted to maintain this front. Every time the mantle was passed from one family member to the next, they made sure that the public’s opinion of them was outstanding.

In 6963 UGY, Amalia Vand won ‘Terran CEO of the Year’ and would hold that award for the next two years. Under her, Vand Corp also ended up in the ‘Top 10 Terran Corporations’ for five years running.

Suppliers

Vand Corp has 52 suppliers that use them for drug redistribution. Officially, of course. On top of that, they redistribute illegal drugs for 17 suppliers.

Their trading contract with the Osiryx Federation allows them to cover a larger area than all of their Terran competitors and most of their non-Terran competitors. Because of this, they have started an outreach programme to try and create some lasting ties between Vand Corp and some of those living in the outer sectors.

Motivations of a Vand

Way back when Morgan Vand started the corporation, it was never about the money for him. It was about providing a much needed service to every Terran, regardless of where they lived or how much they earned. His goal was to reach as many Terrans as possible.

Since then, as the years passed and Vand after Vand have taken up the CEO position, that goal has gone from ‘helping Terrans’ to ‘helping everyone’. A sentiment not often seen in Tau-Terrans.

Of course, money has also slowly but surely become another factor for the Vands to consider. Another goal to strive towards. The family has had a taste of what they have already earned and would like to continue to grow so that their children may prosper just as they have.

Finally, those awards received by Vand Corp and Amalia Vand very recently have also given them another goal. To ensure that their public image remains strong.

Miss Vand, as you are aware, a member of the Medicine and Pharmaceutical Committee has filed a complaint against Vand Corp for ‘a failure to act within galactic law in regards to the distribution of illegal substances’. Whilst the council will be overseeing the complaint in an official capacity and will send appropriate correspondence to your company, I would like to inform you firsthand that the complaint will be discarded at the initial hearing. There is no substantial evidence to bring to the table. I doubt you will even be required to make an appearance to provide counter evidence.

I am also looking into the individual who filed the report - rest assured that, by the time the initial hearing is over, the individual in question will no longer be in any position to file further complaints.

As always, your company provides us a very valuable service, one that we would be foolish to discard over something so meaningless as distributing illegal substances. However, as your friend I would ask that you check your suppliers. Someone has made an error that, fortunately, will come to nothing this time around, but if they make another it could prove to be more dangerous to your company’s future.
