The Alchemist of Time

by Sam Talbot

So much has happened. So much has... changed? Or are they the same? I'm not sure where to begin.

We explored the house finding a study full of books, a practice room for fighting, and a plant room with an assortment of vegetation. Each room was gigantic, probably expanded magically well past the actual size of the tower. While we were looking through this room, Urthan came upstairs, teleporting through a fireplace (the way to move between floors), and said that the wizard had come back and was on death's door from the cold. We all rushed downstairs to find Noelani, Urthan, and Kahla surrounding an older man on the floor, wrapped in a tunic or cloth of some sort. Once we revived him and warmed him up, he was immediately interested in Borris. He kept asking him questions, asking how he could write, what he had learned, etc.

It turns out that Borris isn't the only Borris. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around this, but somehow our timeline isn't the only timeline either. This wizard, Eras, has been through multiple timelines, all of them failing and falling into chaos and destruction from the cold that has started to touch our world. Borris has died each time, except for this timeline. Also, he bleeds, which Eras noted as strange. The wizard asked us what had been happening, the differences being absolute from the last timeline. He realized that another version of himself was roaming this timeline, causing chaos and creating the goblins. He showed us his own version of the Mercury Water, confirming that the connection was there. He informed us that this timeline was his last time jump, as he felt like he was only causing more trouble. He also told us about someone who is an enemy of the Prince of Ice, Albrathanilar. She is a dragon who entrusted Eras with an egg of her child, and has always fought against the Prince of Ice in every timeline- and had always lost. She could be an ally, but we don't know how to get in contact with her, or she could be even worse than the Prince if unleashed.

We decided to send K out to get the tavern, and when she came back she said that there were some mechanical beings on their way toward the tower. Eras seemed afraid and rushed to leave with us. Whatever they are, if they make a powerful wizard afraid, I don't want to be nearby.

My head is spinning. Is there another me in each timeline? Eras said he hadn't heard of us before, so did I never leave my parents in the other timelines? I need some time to think...
