We will be on this road for perhaps two more days, and then I will truly get to see what my new companion can do. We have so far been able to travel carrying very little while still eating very well, which has allowed us to move quickly. I am not worried. Laurin speaks of the wilds with a casual familiarity, and their hawk will hunt for us. Even on the road it has brought us the occasional bird or rabbit, which has made for some good lunches.
I still believe what I told Kolbrá weeks ago, that we needed to strike in the enemies territory. This feels true to me, and yet, I wonder what it is that we can do?
News from Sprin is not good. The Olhaldoarans have made progress, isolating the Northern Peninsula and threatening to move eastward. They have shored up their numbers in Drakechpost. The alliance remains strong.
I did receive one personal note from Kolbrá. She only said "I will keep a place for you by my side."
I'm torn apart by this. I want a place by her side, but... I want to return home. Not only to avenge Cedric's murder and to expose Frederic, but simply to return to a life that makes sense, in a place where I feel alive and free.
