We have travelled off of the main east/west road to one that runs to the south-east. Laurin tells me that we are about 4 days now from the town of Saltwatch, which will be our last day on road. I have to say I am somewhat glad of this, I long to be away from roads and buildings. I have never been such a religious person, but to see so much permanence does shake me. I feel that these towns should be abandoned, that there should be tents and ruin. Seeing towns whole and inhabited feels like walking through a haunted place.
I mentioned this to Laurin. They and I have begun to talk a bit more after almost two weeks on the road together. I have learned more about them, that they were apprenticed to the order at an early age, but have preferred to live the wanderer's life rather than be cloistered in a single place. They speak of the order with a fierce devotion, a protectiveness that is somewhat charming. I feel we have a lot in common.
Laurin has been able to communicate with Sprin across the network. I have of course heard nothing directly from Kolbrá but I think I can hear her voice sometimes, even though we only hear a little news.
Ashes is sending a small force to reenforce the garrison in Sprin, but mostly they are going to make some noise on the southern border of Olhaldoar. This is good for us, as it may move troops away from the East where we hope to cross, and south from our final destination.
