I did not expect the stars to change this much. But as we head north, my old stars head south. Kolbrá and I went out on the deck late last night. She wanted to hear more Cavaeden stories, but I got her to swap stories. The Cavae do not have stories for some of these new stars, but the Sormelah do. She told me that one of the new constellations is known as the knight. They say that the Knight was one of the great ones of the last age, a true giant, 100 feet tall, who built a fortress of his armor to shelter the people of the Ankeepmor valley from the wrath of the forgotten gods. It was a good story and she told it well.
When she forgets who she is supposed to be and allows herself to be who she is, Kolbrá is a vibrant woman with cutting wit. Sometimes she even forgets to be angry for a moment and her smile reaches her eyes. I find myself wanting to see that smile more and more.
This is dangerous, perhaps, but on this ship, so far from our enemies, what is the harm?
