We rode into Saltwatch as the sun began to disappear. It is a small town by the standards of this place, Laurin says that about 1600 people live here. It is large enough to have an inn, which had one room available. We have taken the room for 3 nights, we have been pushing hard these last two weeks and need a rest. From here it is cross-country to Snomehall. I am looking forward to getting off the road and back into the wilds.
After being in the large cities, this small town does not seem as oppressive or strange as it would have three weeks ago. Though I still have trouble with the idea that people simply live here all the time, there aren't many more people here than might gather at a winter camp, and some of the larger camps have almost as many buildings. Still, sleeping inside a building still bothers me. It is the custom here but it reeks of sacrilege.
