UNAUTHORISED READING WILL BE MET WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE


Anxiety becomes me. The Sara Militant is a floating powderkeg, notwithstanding the ammunition storage. Epimetheus seems to be reaching a critical moment, exacerbated by Kakia to no small degree. Though it is the unceasing air of unperturbedness amongst the crew and overconfidence of the OF-V that dismays me the most. It is true that most of the people on this ship possess some skill in combat; we faced one hostile crew yesterday and emerged victorious: one casualty, the first mate, now recovered; opposing force neutralised, hostile commander MIA. What of the next battle? And the dozens that are surely to come? It only takes one loss for the undefeated to become defeated, and here, on the vast open sea, the only retreat leads downwards. Fitting, then, that the new runes and sail allow the Sara Militant to traverse underwater. I am not one to oppose innovation, though the limited understanding of this process unnerves me. My only wish in this matter is that it does not come with any unforeseen consequences, though it is unlikely that Epimetheus would have taken those into consideration in the first place. And I am part of this bandwagon, whatever befalls it.
 
I did not expect to end a life this early on the journey. It is something I have never done and yet have steeled myself for since conscription. Even if that life turned out to be a vessel for a C-type-IV parasite-hijacker. Will I have to get used to this? The facade can conceal much. I think? On the one hand, these creatures are impossible to empathise with; on the other, facing off against them equals immense danger to life. And if current intelligence is any indication, the PARAMOUNT WARHORSE is connected to these mistakes of creation. Still, the daily possibility of death and ruination agitates me. I can not let this impact ongoing efforts. At least the puzzle of Damocles seems to be solved. And if need be, the operational safeguard is in place. Alas, what good did it do last time?
