To the Esteemed Vicountess de Ponvarus,
 
I have now been with my charge for five days and will thus provide an initial account of the situation. The captain of the Swift Mermaid, with the unanimous agreement of the crew, decided to leave Ponvarus in violation of earlier commitments. This was the convergence of a multitude of causes; firstly, the captain himself seeks revenge on his former crew, the Pitched Wanker, on which he served as first mate. He was left to perish after a mutiny, and he believes that they can be intercepted nearby. Secondly, the jötun companion of Nakor, Kazagal, has become embroiled in a dynastic affair. This resulted in him becoming a knight-errant, whose current test takes place out on the waves. These developments led to the captain deciding that the Swift Mermaid should leave Ponvarus.
 
On the state of the assignment: my duties have been threatened, but not adequately so. In particular, the captain verbalised a desire to throw me overboard, though this was obviously not acted upon. Furthermore, the Swift Mermaid was the target of a pirate attack on 8/D. 30, which was successfully repelled. I do not believe that these nuisances will stop anytime soon. Concerning Nakor, he claims to be a prince of the Kang, but has so far not presented credible documents to prove it. Severe administrative irregularities also resulted in transported goods being omitted from the ship's manifest. I attribute this to the crew's institutional neglect of bookkeeping. My attempts to encourage this to the captain have been met with ridicule.
 
I will do my utmost to convince the captain to return to Ponvarus once current events have terminated. Any legal sanction issued against any one person currently on the Swift Mermaid for the abovementioned infractions would likely impede the consular assignment. Deferral is preferred.
