Apocalypse Matt

by Major John Jean-Jon

There was magic in this world once, but they stole it all away.

The Alpha brethren departed the next day, with a full complement of supplies. In addition, the Sultan gave each brother a thoroughbred camel, 3 supply camels, 3 large tents (with poles [10’x20’]), 10 bundles of firewood, iron rations for 14 days, and a minor gold allotment (for incidentals ‘along the way’ [20 gp each]).

Two Gith Yanki showed up to accompany the group, a lady and a man. The male wielded a traditional ‘Silver Sword’, and she hefted a bastard sword. They radiated magic, and glared at the Bandolier brethren with obvious contempt. Their names were Quith: A Knight and K’ss’allath: A spell slicer.

The trip was said to take 4 days North via camel, and the atmosphere was a tense one: with both parties watching the other, wondering who would break the tension first.

On the first day, a trio of human horse riders intercepted the group coming from the East. They had the attire of the Sultan on. Then they headed back to the north. Clearly checking up on the brethren, but said nothing to the party before departing. The everstone whispered that the Githyanki had been sent to ‘Ensure the success of the mission, eliminating all opposition.’

In the first night: John and Thy’lek took the first watch with K’ss’allath, and the second watch was Tage and Yuttosk with Quith. Nothing of note occurred during the watches.

On the second day, a bluespawn Godslayer approached the group from the Northern edge of a dune as they crested it. The immense blue beasts scales glistened in the sun, indicating its hunger as the group approached. They hastily dismounted their camels and ushered them back to a ‘safe distance’. Attempts to defuse the situation were less-than-successful. Yuttosk noticed that the Gith was disgusted by Tages attempts to bluff the creature.

Korric launched a salvo of javelins, with no luck: blaming his lack of sunglasses. John hurled a grenade with the strength of generations, setting it ablaze. Yuttosk laid into it with a crossbow, but the bolt seemed less-than-effective. Tage should have vanished in a puff of smoke, but he forgot. The godslayer rushed up in a rage, striking at John with a bastard sword crackling with energy. The gith observed silently.

Eventually, K’ss attacked with a whirling blade, and Korric followed with a charge. The godslayer intercepted with a vicious swipe of his magical blade. Korrics sword strike did some damage, but not as much as it could have been: Rive wasn’t up to the job apparently. John threw a fancier grenade at the godslayer, entangling, bursting into flames, and burning the creature all at once. Quith unsheathed his silver blade, and did a small amount of damage. Yuttosk followed with a brutal Mountain Hammer. Tage attempted to hurl a shadow shuriken (Hadouken!), and it burst doing a modest bit of damage. The godslayer caught Quith in the groin with a vicious strike: clearly annoying him. K’ss followed with an Ice Storm, after a brief thrust by Thy’lek. John finished the creature with a point-blank bomb, burning away the last of its will to live. Tage inflicted a final death Kancho to add insult to injury.

John offered a ‘healing shower’ to those who had been struck by the beast, carved out a few choice organs and scales for later use, and the group went on their way. The Gith grudgingly accepted, confirming the suspicions of the brothers that they lacked healing capabilities of their own.
