Family Tree Correctly Display Intermarriage

Feature Upgrade · Family trees · Created by Noticeablywhite

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

When trying to make family trees with Intermarriage, shared ancestors are not shown as shared, and rather as separate people. Also if say siblings are married, they will appear twice in the tree, once as a sibling, another as a spouse. This makes modeling family tress like that of King Charles II of Spain practically impossible.

How does this feature request address the current situation?

It would fully clean up the issues with showing characters twice in family trees where ancestors are shared.

What are other uses for this feature request?

It could also be used in content trees to possibly put content under multiple parents, allowing for a more complex tree to be made.

The Team's Response

This was something that was both debated and researched a lot during the development of family trees.   Inbreeding and cross marriage historically and otherwise is almost always handled by doubling on the person in the tree.   The reason that this is the case is that there is no limit to the line drawing that can be affected once you start adding these kind of relationships and there is simply no relliable way in paper or digitally to display them.
