Currently timeline eras are only visible to the author/editor when they are empty
I am debating with my cats if that should be the case or not, Pumba is strongly against it but Shadow and Coco really want this to change because they want to be able to to create timelines with just Eras to show more "between this time we ate that bird" but they do not have exact date.
What do you think guys? Should I change it so timeline eras are in fact always visible to everyone?
I don't see why you wouldn't want that - each timeline can have different eras, so if you have added them, then it makes sense you would want them to be displayed. But making it a toggle feature would satisfy everyone...
i'd go for always visible or user choice. an era where nothing happened is still an era :)
Ah, this one again :-). It has come up on more than one occasion before. At first I thought it was actually a bug but I was informed that it was the settled opinion of the community that they wanted it to work the way it does now. Based on what's happened since it does seem I'm not the only one that thinks there is nothing wrong with displaying "empty" eras to the public just as they appear to the editor and owner of the timeline, so maybe not so settled, and not just me that finds the current way it works confusing. I'm personally on the side of Shadow and Coco. I'd personally make displaying the era the default (or why add it at all) and have a check box to suppress it for those that want to hide their "empty" eras to keep everyone happy.
If timelines are empty they should not visible. I mean, if there's nothing to see in it why have it public?
Sure, but only if it is togglable. Otherwise, I'd be against having empty eras display.
I can see the usecases for both pretty equally! I think the toggle solution presented by others here already would be ideal! If only one can exist, I'd rather err on the side of displaying empty eras.
This idea is appealing to me. I can see how I would want to have an era that I have not written about (yet, or maybe never) but that era might be a "time leap" from one period to another in the story. I think that could be useful!
Why not make a switch on the era so it could be either on or off based on the creator's choice?
I definitely agree with the toggle option.
Personally, I think making it a toggle seems like the optimal option. Everyone wins!
Yes, because there could be eras that exist but no one knows what happened back then. Think of RPGs for Dr Who, Time Cop or Terminator. .......wait, I'm getting a spiritual impression that this has been said before by a powerful soul from the past! For me, toggle is usually the best option. =)
I would like to see them visible even if empty, as I often used them more as "titles" for a time period.
I think they should be visible - even if they're empty, they still happened and viewers/players/subscribers can have names for the era
I like the idea of toggles so that people have a choice, but for my use case, I prefer eras always visible.

There should be an option, but by default they should be visible. Knowing which era a world is in gives a lot of context, but sometimes you just don't have anything to put in those eras yet! And think about it: on Earth we don't have any concrete events for the Precambrian, but we still named it :)
Slap on a toggle for eras of "Show when empty" and everyone can be happy!
My vote is that timeline eras should be visible all the time. Changing an Era is a big thing. :)
Allowing empty eras allows for more flexibility. Maybe add classes so it's easy to hide them with CSS as desired (or a toggle option?).
Eras with nothing specific in them are great for adding mystery.
