Fill Timeline from Articles

New Feature Addition · Timelines · Created by KadeCombe1

It's rather hard for me to remember to fill in dates in articles and kind of frustrating to then have to go back into the timeline, and link articles to the timeline.

If the line about dates in the articles were linked to the timeline page and the timeline could sync based on that, the timeline feature would be much more useful, at least to me.

The Team's Response

Accepted as to be discussed   The idea above although it sounds good has a lot of holes, which is not odd, since it's only 3 lines long. The first of them is that articles are not historical entries and that there is a good reason for this. Historical entries have A LOT of information pertinent to their type of content that articles do not have.   We could allow articles (Except those that already do) have a date (or at least a year) and create a historical entry automatically, but then you will have the issue of keeping those two in sync, or just ignore synching has have absolute chaos in your hands. :P The you have the question of what happens if the article is deleted, or of the historical entry is manually changes. Or even how do you set which timelines to appear to.   The point being this is a great idea at face value, and I am all for it, I completely agree with many of the comments, but it needs some thinking of how to be implemented correctly and not become a sketchy patchwork.... Thus, in discussion.
