What had been but reflections of fog, drifting along the surface of the pond, bloomed, expanding around the young boy. As night set in, he sat against a tree; arms wrapped around his knees and his gentle sobs filled the night.

Terrified, he cried out: “Mommy!”

There was no response. “Daddy!”

Silence.

The boy’s sobs grew louder, his face damp from the torrent of tears pouring from his eyes. Yet, his cries reached no one, the sound fading before anyone could hear. He was lost in the middle of the forest, night creeping across the open sky.

This is a project from one of the classes. The assignment was to write 7-10 pieces of flash fiction that handeled one overarching idea/theme, I used loneliness as the basis of it.
It's not really connected to my worlds, so all I can ask you to do is to let me know what you think of it.

This one gave me goosebumps. What a nightmare. Very well written. Again you bring across the theme very well.

Author of Ealdwyll, a fantasy world full of mystery.
