11. A Long Day in Vesium

The party as a whole settled down at the Brooding Goose at their arrival to Vesium. The following day, each member set off on their own tasks for the day. Kent conducted research at the library of the College of the Marble Bishop to learn more about Empyreans, gaining entry while posing as a student. While his search did not turn up much more than what his party had previously garnered, Kent met an old librarian who at least seemed agreeable to his efforts, if not somewhat scatter-minded. Andraste dedicated his day to feeding the needy in the city’s poorer districts while also preaching the word to Pelor, though his latter efforts may have fallen on less than attentive ears. Buzz spent most of his day performing his lute at taverns, exploring the city, and, when his performances soured, trying to become inebriated.   Jester and Varris saw a good amount of Vesium themselves, as they traveled from one district to another in search of Henry’s family; though ultimately, their efforts–which included asking a drunkard for directions–only turned up a family crest on Henry’s sword to go by. As the day turned to evening, most of the party came together, mostly by chance, in the Southern district. Varris spent some time to pay a visit to the Cloaks’ branch in Vesium, an outwardly humble base of operations but enough to achieve contact with the guild. With the message of recent occurrences in Aldeville reported to the Cloaks, Varris and Jester began their trek back to the Brooding Goose. Andraste and Buzz, who had gone ahead on their way to the inn, noticed strange sounds coming from an alley. As they approached, they caught sight of two vampire spawn feeding upon a corpse. With the rest of their party only shortly behind, Andraste and Buzz engaged in combat. Both vampires managed to grab a hold of each of them, and eventually biting away at their vitality as a result. Andraste succeeded in turning the vampire grabbing Buzz and forced it to flee from the fight. The other members of the party arrived to witness the vampire continuing to feast upon Andraste in its grasp. While they fought to eradicate the monster, they failed to defeat it before it sucked away the last of the cleric’s vitality. Though, in vengeance, the party struck down the vampire.   Afterwards, the group gathered the corpses and traveled to the Order of Avalon’s headquarters in the Central district, after some guidance from Firon. There, a priestess named Lenora greeted them, acknowledging their situation and concerns. Shortly thereafter, the party found themselves face to face with the Archbishop Vesius IV, the lord of the city and head of House Gaventon. The adventurers divulged the presence of vampires, and possibly a higher vampire, as well as gained some more insight to the situation in Vesium and the Order’s activities. They then requested a service to resurrect Andraste from Vesius IV, who agreed in exchange for a relatively small compensation and a service from them. After Andraste’s resurrection, the party questioned Lenora for a short while before at last returning to the Brooding Goose with a weakened and exhausted, but living, cleric.
"It does not surprise me of adventurers, that for each service rendered there is a demand."
