A brutal, violent conflict between the living and the dead, leading to a drastic reduction in population for most the eastern hemisphere.
The Conflict
Prelude
As Xanthar Empire enjoyed its dominion from sea to sea, something evil was spreading. A terrible plague washed over the lands, and without a cure, left the titan empire near defenseless. At the same time, a witch by the name of Merelith was practicing blood magic on whoever she could, often those who were sick. Individuals who found themselves in one of her experiments would often die a slow, painful death as their blood was slowly harvested from their body. These incidents have led many to believe Merelith was the mother of the Plague. As her power grew, Merelith turned the magical prowess she gained through he dark art and turned towards necromancy, turning the very individuals she stole life from.
After amassing an estimated 1000 undead soldiers, Merelith began devouring whole cities, turning the fallen and growing her forces rapidly. It wasn't long before nearby nations, The Saloria Republic and Myrthul, realized the threat and reinforced the Xanthar Empire, the only time to date that Salorian and Xantharian forces would fight on the same side under the name of the East World Alliance.
While Merilith could send her horde out for miles ahead of her own advance, she couldn't absorb the power of those she killed without being physically present. Rather than move from her throne at
The Great Hall in
Godsreach, she had her undead servants drag the corpses of those slain to the far north, across hundreds of miles. This meant that the Alliance fought on the defensive for most of the war, training and preparing for their strike into the heart of the horde.
It was a harsh winter when the Alliance was finally ready to lead its assault. Many of the top strategists wanted to wait for warmer weather, but with Merelith's horde growing larger by the day, they were left with no choice. The 100 day march began on 1203/02/09 from the capitol, Saloria.
It was at the
Battle of the Great Hall where Merelith would perish, but not before attempting to use her then massive army to fuel a powerful spell using her own body as a catalyst. The spell failed, however, and resulted in her own destruction, along with the majority of the Great Hall, which remains today in ruins in the uninhabited Godsreach.
