Originally founded as a city state by Bartholomew Feircer after leading a military coup against Lord Gregory, Xanthar quickly grew to be a symbol of resistance against class division, a terrible irony as Bartholomew betrayed his lord for money and power. But as more townships and cities joined Xanthar, the people looked for a leader in the man who started the revolution. Bartholomew was more than happy to take command, declaring himself emperor and leading the main assault on the Peridale Kingdom.
The Empire expanded quickly, but the Emperor was never sated. His greed fueled his jealousy, leading him to kill his wife in a fit of rage, accusing her of infidelity. His son, Bartholomew II, fled to the armory, stole a sword, and returned exacting vengeance on his father. Now in command, he continued his father's vision of an expansive empire, but with the intent to liberate people from class divide.
As Xanthar reached the borders of the Kingdom of Braxton, war broke almost immediately. Braxton was the first force to go head to head with Xantharian forces and hold their ground. After 50 years of intermittent fighting, Bartholomew II died from health complications due to age, leaving his son, Lucian, at the helm of the Empire. Lucian, still quite young, was temperamental, and saw Braxton's resilience as unacceptable. Lucian reinvigorated the war effort, leading a deep penetrating assault into Braxton territory and breaking Braxton's defenses. The young emperor absorbed what remained of the north into Xanthar.
Following the Xanthar-Braxton War, the Plague spread rapidly across the newly expanded empire. Between disease and the
The Plague War, Xanthar lost over 60% of its military aged males, some regions losing up to 90%.
Decades later, the Empire has recovered, stronger than ever and continues to push for an Empire spanning all the eastern hemisphere.
