The Hallow Woods

"Oh gods, what is that smell? Is that you Falnir?"   -Zuyka Tenderfoot
Disintegrated leaves and dried branches line the floor of the Hallow Woods, and long-dead trees tower above it. The woods are prone to bear all sorts of curses and deadly creatures.

Geography

The woods sit in a shallow valley that extends out from the Azroks and becomes more hilly as it approaches the northern edge. The dead forest has few clean water sources, and in the lower parts of the valley becomes a thick swamp.

Travel

Because of its central location and size, travel around the woods can add days to a trip from north to south Halholm. Therefor, King Hal ordered the construction and patrol of a road through the center of the woods. While the patrols are sparse, the road is usually safe.

Fauna & Flora

"Huh. It's all just... Dead."   -Unknown
The dead trees that occupy the woods were mostly coniferous and any cones they once held have melded into the deadened floor. The brush that used to thrive in the woods, Fire Thorn, still holds its poison, an inflammatory that can close off airways if introduced to the neck.

Undead

Recently, a large amount of undead had appeared within the woods and spilled into local towns and cities, including Bjornfall, where they had infested parts of the sewer system. Locals to the region believed the woods were cursed and said it was a small party that had gone into the woods to end it. The rumor is the group was the notorious Sinfatum. Despite the end of new dead rising, some undead still wander the woods, often getting tangled in Fire Thorn or wandering into farms outside the forest.
