Morathin

The "Dwarven Isle" is a large island off the west coast of Southern Myrthul. The island itself is the sole territory of the Kingdom of Morathin and home to dwarves for over 400 years. Ten years ago, outsider access to the island was prohibited, and it wasn't until recent times that the borders were re-opened.

Geography

The island was originally mostly rocky mountains with very little in way of tillable soil. But when Morathin still held territories in the mainland, the dwarves carried fertile soil back to their home and terraformed large areas of land on the eastern coast of the island. After decades of cultivation, the dwarves were able to successfully develop a stable ecosystem and developed farms for crops.   The island rests between the temperate climate zone of Central Myrthul and the arctic climate zone of Southern Myrthul, and it has a prevalent wind from the west which results in a fairly warm summer and a moderately cold winter. Rainfall is higher on the western side of the island but it is also more prone to hazards such as landslides.   Besides landslides, earthquakes and tsunamis are other events Morathin suffers, although not frequently. Earthquakes can lead to more disasters depending on how violent the shaking.

Natural Resources

Morathin holds extremely large deposits of mythril ore in its mountains, which the dwarves have exploited for generations. The same mines also hold various jewels as well as several large silver veins.   The islands also gives its inhabitants access to the ample fish that live in the western Myrthul waters, including several types of rockfish and shellfish. Clams in the region also provide the dwarves with a supply of pearls unique on the continent.
