Halflings
Halflings are a humanoid species found largely within the domain of the Free Cities along the peninsula on the northeastern tip of the continent of Zalas. They are distinct from the other species of the world due to their very small stature with the species being considered maybe the shortest of any species although Kobolds give them stiff competition in this regard. They are typically seen as having average intelligence. The species is also known generally to be very positive and upbeat and to almost never seen to be sad for any long length of time.

Geographic Origin and Distribution
The species is mostly found within the peninsula along the northeastern tip of the continent of Zalas. Large numbers of the species can be found within the Phale Woods that is located on the peninsula.

The species is mostly found within the Free Cities where they are known to hold significant political influence. They are common throughout the governments of each of the three main cities that make up the nation and several of the councilors that rule the nation have been Halflings.

History
Although the species is commonly thought in folklore and superstition to be descended from Humans and some other long extinct species most scholars and historians agree that the species was created by the god Tarsen around the same time as the creation of many of the other species of the world. The species is thought to originate somewhere within the Phale Woods although exactly where is unclear. The species is thought to be the only one to originally reside within the area of the peninsula along the northeastern tip of the continent of Zalas now under the control of the Free Cities. The majority of the species was originally under the control of the Abasid Caliphate but largely all of the species joined with the rebellion against the Caliphate and became apart of the new nation of the Free Cities. Although the species is not known to be very numerous in number they have held significant political influence within the Free Cities with a number of former councilors being apart of the species. In more recent times the species is mostly still centered within the Free Cities.
