History
Early Life
Born into a powerful noble house of the old Illisian Empire, Philleas Auruman had access to the best education in the most prosperous empire in Calas. Quickly labeled as a prodigy, Philleas had surpassed every teacher presented by age ten; and soon grew bored with his simple life
In his search for fulfillment young Philleas discovered magic, and used his family's connections to gain an apprenticeship with the court mage of Illis. Since his new position granted him access to the royal library, Philleas' aptitude for study was put to great use as he quickly exhausted every book on magic contained within. Seeing the extreme potential in his student, Philleas' teacher recommended that he receive a more formal education, so that he could further develop his skills, and referred him to the Royal Academy of Magic.
It was there where Philleas met his future adventuring partner and lifelong friend Jadel Cartos. Spurred on by dreams of adventure and their friendly rivalry, Jadel and Philleas finished their schooling early and began traveling Calas, as adventurers.
After years of improving their skills and making a name for themselves as powerful mages through their adventures, Philleas was offered the opportunity to take on his old master's position as the Illisian Empire's Court Mage. Although not originally wanting to give up the adventurer's lifestyle, he was eventually convinced to take the position as a way to honor his old teacher, prompting Jadel to take a similar position in the allied kingdom of Teres
Convergence
The day the Convergence began, Philleas knew something was wrong, but it wasn't until he received news of Teres' Fate that he truly became concerned. Before he could go to investigate the fate of his Jadel, The Convergence began in full force over Calas. Forced to defend Illis, Philleas soon gave up hope of seeing his old friend again
It wasn't until Illis fell and Philleas was able to investigate the focal point of Convergence above the ruins of Teres that he was able to see Jadel again. Finding the comatose his comatose body, Philleas discovered that Jadel's soul was scattered across the planes; and set out on a journey to reunify them and heal him
When he returned to Calas, he was able to repair Jadel's soul and wake him. Reuniting the two greatest mages of the era, both stronger than ever. With their combined strength to rally behind, the united forces of Calas were able to rout the extraplanar armies that had invaded during the Convergence
The Great Sanctum
Soon after, The Convergence ended, leaving Calas to rebuild and recover. Seeing the destruction it had caused, Philleas knew something had to be done to keep a disaster of this scale from occuring again. Soon after he began to gather the most gifted and powerful mages he could find, to found, what he called "The Great Sanctum" to further the understanding of magic and to train an army to defend the world from another calamity.
As the founder of The Sanctum, and one of if not the most powerful member, he took the highest position of leadership and the title of archmage. He serves as the political face of the orginization as well as its leader with the help of his council of advisors, including Jadel

History
Close friends since before the Calamity, the two bonded in their youths over their shared curiosity about magic and love of adventure. When Jadel's condition threatened his life, Philleas worked tirelessly to stabilize him, and afterwords asked him to join in founding The Great Sanctum, partially to prevent a similar condition from befalling anyone else.

After hearing of Iliphar's defeat of the Skorian forces, Philleas sought out the person he had heard of. Philleas' curiosity towards druidic magic and the The Great Sanctum's fued with the Church of Skoria, led him to seek out Iliphar and the druids of Strania as allies.
They hold great respect for one another as leaders and spellcasters. This, and their shared distaste for the church, have led them to become close allies
