Basic Information

Due to their rarity, as well as their dangerous nature, getting close enough to study a leviathan is a rare occurrence. As a result, very little is known about the anatomy and capabilities of the species other than what can be gathered from sparse accounts

Biology

Anatomy

The Leviathan has a body that has been described as a cross between a Whale and a Leech with a pointed snout similar to a shark and a mouth that opens to reveal seemingly endless rows of teeth

Colossal Size

The size of the Leviathan has been measured at a comparable length to a large merchant ship and comparable to the largest whales in all other measures.

Metallic Scales

The scales of the Leviathan have an appearance similar to a dark grey metal have demonstrated similar strength and durability to steel.

Great Strength

As a result of their great size, Leviathans possess a great deal of strength that can further be augmented by their inherent magic

Burrowing

By combining their incredible strength, large size, and durable armor, Leviathans are capable of burrowing through nearly any material and have been known to create caves by digging through mountains

Flight

Despite their size and weight, Leviathans are capable of flight by channeling their magic into their fins and "swimming" through the air

Inherent Magic

Although they lack the sapience to learn and cast magic, Leviathans instinctually can enhance their physicality and attacks

Energy Detection

As they lack eyes, Leviathans are blind, however, they are able to navigate and hunt by sensing energy: such as from other creatures and sources of magic

Astral Form

When a Leviathan first travels to the Material Plane, its connection to the plane is still weak, and it appears ethereally as it would in the Astral Plane, with the exception of its metallic features. While in this form the Leviathan is much faster and has the ability to phase through objects, at the cost of its strength

Matter Destruction

Because of the immaterial nature of its home plane, Leviathans feed on magical energy. While in the Material Plane, this ability breaks down matter into energy for the Leviathan to consume. As more energy is consumed in this way, the stronger the Leviathan's connection to the plane becomes stronger and it's form becomes more corporeal

Energy Projection

A Leviathan has the ability to release the energy they consume, either through their magic or through a concentrated destructive beam; although doing this weakens the creature's connection to the material plane

The scales of these creatures can be forged into powerful magical armor and weapons, capable of channeling and storing magical energies

• Due to the rarity of the scales, items made from it are very expensive and are considered status symbols

The bones of these creatures are sought after as a powerful magical indgredient and focus

• The Archmage of The Great Sanctum uses a staff made of Leviathan Bones

When imbued with the right divination magic, the flesh of this creature can be used to predict the future as if reading the stars

• This is ability is used frequently at Astros Tower

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

The Leviathan's body beneath its scales glows with shifting purple and white lights

• When in its Astral Form, the glow is revealed to be in the image of nebulas and stars, accurately mirroring the movements of celestial bodies as they occur in the sky
