Planeswalker Cartos
Planeswalker Jadel Cartos
History
Early life
Born during a Golden Age of Adventure, Jadal grew up on stories of adventurers and their journies and longed for an adventure of his own.
Soon after leaving home to attend school Jadel discovered his affinity for magic, and was hailed as a prodigy. Recalling the stories of his youth, and knowing that he would be better off with companions, Jadel sought out others who could adventure with him. It was through his search that he met Philleas Auruman, another student whose talent for magic matched even his own.
After quickly developing a friendly rivalry that pushed them to finish their schooling early, the two began their lives as adventurers. The two became close friends, bonding over their shared love of adventure and magic. The duo continued to travel Calas making a name for themselves and improving their magical abilities until Philleas was offered, and accepted, a position as the court mage of the first Illisian Empire. Not one to let his rival get ahead of him, Jadel sought out, and found, a similar position in the Kingdom of Teres
Rebirth
A year after Jadel first started his life in Teres, The Convergence began, directly above the nation's capital city of Clerlun. The energy released leveled the entire city, and Jadel was barely able to use his magic to protect himself. The power of his spell was enough to protect his body, but the explosion ripped his soul from his body into the Elemental Chaos at the center of the planes, leaving him in a comatose state.
Jadel remained this way until Philleas traveled to the Elemental Chaos in the final years of the Convergence to retrieve his fractured soul and bring back one of The Material Plane's strongest champions to help end the Convergence.
When he returned, Jadel's abilities had evolved and his body with them, granting him a new level of power at the cost of his body phasing in and out of other planes whenever he used his magic. With his newfound power; Jadel, Philleas, and the combined forces of the nations of Calus were able to force the extraplanar hordes back to their home planes.
The Great Sanctum
After the end of the Convergence, Philleas began to gather the most gifted and powerful mages he could find, to found The Great Sanctum as defenders of the world, and asked Jadel to join him. Jadel accepted and was granted the position of second-in-command to Philleas, due to his condition limiting how much of his power he could access without risking disappearing.
Over time, as his condition worsened and began to threaten his life, he and Philleas sought a way to stabilize him, travelling the planes to find a cure. Using gathered materials from each of the Elemental Planes, and their combined magical prowess, eventually they were able to create a spell tethering Jadel body to the material plane.
Being reminded of their old adventures reignited Jadel's desire to explore the unknown, so in spite of his inability to physically leave, Jadel sought a way to further explore and document the planes. He eventually developed the ability to project a his soul into the planes, designating himself the Sanctum's resident planar cartogropher, and earning his title of Planeswalker.
