Cherry Munamase

The Lost Son

Cherry was born the second son of Date Munamase. He would have become a great warrior on the front lines of the Yugawan Civil War, but the clan was decimated by their rivals, the Katagawa Clan, when Cherry was five. The only survivors were Cherry and his older brother, Sparrow. The two fled into the forest of the Sen Mountain Range, taking refuge among the spirits.   For reasons Cherry can't remember – even after breaking the spell that made him forget his past – Sparrow left, entrusting the care of his brother to a family of fox spirits. They locked away his memories and raised him for a while before letting him wander into the nearby Nihana village. There, he made friends with Asuka Toku and Heihachi Mishino. Heihachi was a lot older (twenty when Cherry was twelve), but he filled the brother role that Cherry so desperately needed. Cherry and Asuka both looked up to him as a role model. Were it not for Heihachi, Cherry may not have chosen to become a Bushi.   While attending the *Jakuru School of Bushido*, he made more friends. One – *Natsu Kaibara* – he was introduced to through Heihachi (Natsu's older brother was a Monk with Heihachi). However, friends weren't the only things Cherry gained while training. In his final year, during a meditation session to try and unlock his Third Eye Chakra, Cherry accidentally uncovered a wall placed in his mind. As instructed, he broke through the wall, but what he found was more than a *Cosmic Gate*. He recovered his memories.   With his newfound knowledge, he was set on the path to revenge. He swore to find the people that killed his family and make them pay. Much to his surprise, his friends didn't want to join him. They told him that, not only would revenge not solve anything, but it would likely land him in prison or dead. He refused to listen, joining the Sakurashi Gumi in their fight against the Samurai and the system that destroyed his family.   In the pursuit of his vengeance, he bonded his soul with a light spirit. This threw his ki levels through the roof, allowing him to go toe to toe with a dozen trained samurai all by himself. However, he found himself feeling hollow. He came to understand that the mission he had set before himself wouldn't get him anywhere. So, rather than run himself to death, he returned home - parting with the Sakurashi on good terms - and asked his friends to help him find Sparrow. They agreed, following him to Uirsgeul where they all joined the Gryphon's Blade. Heihachi and Asuka worked in the kitchen, putting their time at the *Sleeping Wolf* to use. Cherry, meanwhile, was granted an S-rank and started the search for his brother.

Physical Description

Facial Features

Despite his Onigo father, Cherry has no horns. This is thanks to his Human mother, a trait which he shares with his brother. However, he does have the fangs one would expect of an Onigo, albeit not to the extent seen in others.

Identifying Characteristics

He can be identified by his Gumi tattoos, though he often covers them with his clothing. Additionally, he is essentially albino, following his merge with the light spirit.

Personal history

Growing up in the Sen Mountains, Cherry was afforded the somewhat rare opportunity to live among the spirits. He was raised by a family of fox spirits, and actually had a loose friendship with Ryujin and Sujinami. However, it wasn't until he ventured into Nihana village that he really started to form.   When he was thirteen, he was allowed to begin training as a Bushi. This allowed him to become a protector of his village, and his surrogate family of spirits.   Cherry didn't remember most of his early life. Not only was he young, but the spirits that raised him placed a spell on him to make him forget. However, when that spell broke, he remembered fragments of his life as a young child, living in the Munamase Palace, the son of Date Munamase. He is now amused to realize he and his father were both named for fruits. He also was able to recall his brother, Sparrow. It was that singular recollection that drove him. He remembered the attack on their home - running from the Samurai that were hired to kill his family.   These memories came to define him and drove him to vengeance. However, over the course of his revenge, he realized that he missed home. He missed his friends. In truth, he had created a family for himself. That helped him see that his singular goals would leave him hollow. Rather than seek revenge, he should find Sparrow - the only blood family he had left.   That turned his attentions, and helped deepen his bonds with the friends he had back in Nihana. Were is not for this change of direction, he likely would have ended up dead, but they were able to help him find purpose.   Having already bonded with the light spirit, Cherry was dedicated to using what he had intended for evil to be used for good, leading Heihachi and Asuka to follow him to Uirsgeul, where all three joined the Gryphon's Blade. There, Cherry felt like he belonged.   Still, he holds out hope that he'll be able to find Sparrow.
