Samurai

Samurai are the elite soldiers of Yugawa. Like the Knights of many other countries, they're held as a sort of quasi-nobility. Though not technically landed and certainly not aristocratic, Samurai are of wealth. This is what allows them to have some of the finest armor and weapons available, as well as make a living out of warfare even when there is no war. However, this is also what leads them to the same pitfalls as groups like the Kalastradi aristocrats – infighting. Because they are all wealthy, warfare is not their only game. Many of them get into the same kind of political maneuvering that one might see in the courts of a King, except they do it in the ranks of a nobleman's army.
Sitting at the top of the Samurai are the Shogun. Some of the greatest warlords alive, the Shoguns are more than fighters, they are like Samurai Kings. Although they still technically submit to the authority of the crown, they command more power than anyone else in the country. Below them are the Daimyo, but they are not Samurai. The Daimyo are attended to by the Generals. While higher ranked than the Generals, the de facto leaders are actually the Generals as they carry the will of the Shogun. Each General has lieutenants, and below them are the Samurai. There are still more below them, but they are generally just common soldiers.
