Kalastradi Monarchy

Kalastrad is the most technologically advanced nation among the major players, as they have recently invented the flintlock firearm. However, that is an extremely complex and difficult to commercialize technology, so it’s unlikely that they will see a technological revolution any time soon. That said, they are also an extremely proud nation.   Kalastrad used to be twelve smaller countries, but they all bent their knee to a single, unifying force in the form of the new nation’s first king, Loran Kalas I. The twelve nations became twelve provinces, each ruled over by a regent. However, those regents were not equals. To two, Kalas gave the title of Archduke. Below them were the Dukes, then Princes, Marquis, Earls, and Viscounts. At the very bottom, there were the Barons.   Over the course of the next few centuries, the vassalage grew and became deeply entrenched, though rule was not hereditary. Instead, each individual to hold a title would carry it to death, at which point the seat was empty until the King filled it. That changed nearly a century ago, as Repenian influences caused some unrest among the nobility, leading to the decision to make the titles pass in a patrilinear confederate partition. This is still a far cry from forcing the King to allow all matters of state to be voted on by a council comprised of the entire court, but it did take some of the power from the King's hands, as it no longer allowed the monarch to shuffle the nation's power structure on a whim to suit his sole purposes.   The Kalas’ line was uninterrupted for over eleven hundred years until the sovereign Torvald Kalas III went to his deathbed without an heir. He chose Duke Wesley Moore II - a man from a Cervoyan family - to be his successor, thus beginning the Moore Dynasty that has lasted the last three hundred years and then some, and now come to the most recent, King Iradin Moore I.   This vassalage reaches the church, as well. Since the reign of Walter Kalas V, the King of Kalastrad has also served as the Grand Bishop of the Kalastradi sect of the Izaric church. The Grand Bishop is not sovereign of the church, but rather second to the Apostle. All the same, the king still holds a great deal of sway over the Kalastradi believers.   Finally, though it was once a thriving faith, the Eldritch Church was driven from the shores of Kalastrad by Walter Kalas V. Little is remembered about the faith, but any whisper of its practice is scorned.   As for the country itself, it has quite the spread. Its eastern most province, Attica is roughly a 400-mile voyage from Baliklav, but is only 100 miles south of it. Fortunately, the currents coming north from Havan and Antioch keep the coastal regions a good deal warmer than the sub-arctic location would suggest. The country is a 540-mile-wide, 270-mile-tall land mass with a strait in the middle. Thanks to the temperature, it can be a bit rainy, but the weather is rather manageable.
