Archduke/ Archduchess
There are only two Archducal seats in Kalastrad. They are the Archduchies of Arkham and Caripice, both titles presently held by the husband and wife duo of Enoch and Angel Renfield.
No other aristocracy uses this title.
Qualifications
The titles of Kalastrad are given by the King and the King alone. Though titles can be passed down hereditarily, the monarch wields the power to strip anyone of their titles. So, currying the favor of the King is the only qualification.
However, it should also be said that Kalastrad has a partition inheritance system. When a titleholder dies, if they have more than one title (unlikely but possible), the titles are split among their children.
Requirements
As for the granting of the title, the requirements are the King or Queen's blessing. To inherit the title, you must be the oldest male child in your family or old enough to be in line if the Archduchy is one of the lesser titles your family holds.
Appointment
The granting of a title can be as grand or unceremonious as the King pleases. However, the granting of the Archducal seats is always surrounded in ceremony.
Duties
The Archducal seats are the highest in the Kalastradi Monarchy, save the King and Queen. That said, it comes with a great level of responsibility. As local sovereigns, they are charged with managing all the lesser lords and ladies, as well as answering to the monarch.
They are required to serve in court for two months out of the year, during which time the seat is held by the next highest lord in the region.
Responsibilities
They are responsible for all matters dealing with their region. The Archduke of Arkham, for example, must oversee the collection of Arkham's taxes, command the movements of their armed forces, and serve as sovereign of the land by holding council regularly.
Benefits
They are granted a manor and standing guard.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Anything the King deems too grievous to allow. This varies largely based on the ruler at the time.
History
The title was created when the first King of Kalastrad drafted the Kalastradi Charter, thus creating the kingdom from the disparate nations that had previously existed.
