Uirsgeul

Though not a large country, Uirsgeul is made of eighteen provinces. Each of these provinces exists to serve a function for the whole, but the individuals are also mostly self-sufficient. That said, it bears explaining what each is known for.

Draigog and Shifnal

Avid fishing provinces, Draigog and Shifnal are complicated with regard to their placement in the hierarchy. On the one hand, they produce some of the finest foods in the country, but, on the other, the populace is mostly viewed as uncultured.   Though they have a great many harbors, only one – located in Shifnal – is properly equipped for larger vessels. As a result, the majority of trade is done over land. This does little to help the affluence of the provinces, leaving only the heads of fishing companies with any wealth. Though located in totally different parts of Uirsgeul, their cultures are very similar.

Oakbugh

The sleepy northern province of Oakbugh is wine and cider country. They are proud of the heritage represented by their centuries-old orchards and vineyards, ringed in stone walls made of the very bedrock of the nation.   Though the general individual lives a simple and common life, drawing in little coin, there is a pride to their demeanor. They aren’t wealthy, but they don’t desire any more than the joy of growing their crop and making the ciders and wines they are known for.

Cathair and Baile

These two provinces encircle the capital province of Crewih. This has caused them to be the wealthiest among the rest. Home to mostly merchants and bankers, Cathair and Baile are hubs of activity and culture. Cathair is the lesser of the two and more pocketed in its development. There are many rural areas in the province, but it is no less for it. Baile on the other hand barely turns to fields before the next city rises.   The main issue for them lies in the fact that they are generally not as liked as the others. The average citizen will look at the people of Cathair and Baile as stuck up and snobbish.

Beagóg, Gelisa, and Tuaithe

Probably the most moderate of all the provinces, Beagóg, Gelisa, and Tuaithe are known mostly for growing grain. They are also hubs for naval trading, causing them to be mixing bowls of culture, food, and wares.   Gelisa is more insular, limited to a small portion exposed to the ocean. However, this has coused them to be more active in their trading on the Ren Sea, dealing with Sráid and Airgead. This central location also makes them the most blended of the three.   Beagóg is the largest and has the most access to the ocean, making it not only the wealthiest of the three, but also the least “Uirsgeulean”. In addition to their growing grain, they are also well known for growing potatoes and breeding a specific variety of cows.   Tuaithe is not remarkable in any particular way. It’s truly the most mid-line of all the provinces. They grow their grain and they do their trade, but they are neither wealthy nor controversial. They simply are.

Schilia, Aflegium, and Cathrach

These three are entirely unlike the others in the fact that they are entirely known for hunting. Wild game and wilderness are what they make their livings on. This has led to their reputation as provinces of savages, but also made them a haven for Hunters and Highlanders. Though most highlanders hail from Baliklav – likely why they settled in the nearest provinces to their home – their numbers in Schilia especially can’t be ignored.

Darkazaga and Airgead

These are military provinces. While both fall under the same umbrella, they have different emphases. Airgead is known for their naval production. With an outlet to the ocean, and a border with four of the six lakes and seas in Uirsgeul, they have earned their place as the naval ruler of the nation, even becoming home to the Royal Naval Academy.   Darkazaga, on the other hand, is known for their infantry. They have the three schools responsible for producing the Uirsgeul Special Troops. The Dragoons – the crown’s heavy troops – are trained at the Uirsgeulean Infantry College. The Fleetfoots – a branch of Agents – train and are sanctioned at the Irthil Scool. Finally, the Radiance – the only government sanctioned religious military – are from the St. Argos Academy.

Sráid, Doble, and Sorotel

The final three are well known for production. They produce everything from ships to carts to weapons to livestock. As a result of their wide scope, they are inconsistent with regard to development. There are cities that could rival those in Cathair, Baile, or Crewih, but there are also incredibly rural tracts with one family per twenty square miles. This is entirely dependent on what they produce, but that matters little.

Crewih and Griesrubenia

The actual final two are polar opposites, but they sit at the poles of Uirsgeul. Crewih, the capital, is the gem of the nation. The finest products and trade are all done in Crewih. The King’s Court, and thus twenty nobles at a time, live in this province. Theater, art, music, architecture, all the edges of culture that can be cut are in Crewih. Griesrubenia is the exact opposite. It’s a wasteland, abandoned and shaded in gloom. Nigh entirely abandoned, there’s nothing worth going to Griesrubenia for.
