The Whispering Arrows

The Whispering Arrows are a fighter guild made up of specifically expert archers. Historically, it has produced (or contained) some of the best achers in the world, as well as some of the most cohesive units. They are mercenaries, and have been found on both sides of many different conflicts across the span of history.

Culture

The culture of the guild is one of expected excellence and complete loyalty to the other members of the unit. The guild operates out of the Free Territory of Galanthis, and members give up their allegiance to any other country and become citizens of Galanthis upon becoming an Arrow. Betrayal of any of their Guildsisters or Guildbrothers is considered an execution-worthy offense, no matter the laws of whatever country they may be in.

Public Agenda

The Whispering Arrows do not officially subscribe to the dogma of any country. They decide what engagements to take (or not take) by vote of 3/4 or more vote. The main rule is that they cannot take engagements on opposite sides of the same conflict at the same time.

History

The guild was founded in 11556 CE, originally a group of mercenary archers who were dissatisfied with their current mercenary group and wanted to found their own, with different values and principles. The twenty-five of them were just enough to officially start a guild in Galanthis, and so they did. Over time, they built an excellent education program and began recruiting the best of the best, building the group up to the fame and size it enjoys now.

Guild Ranks

The Guildmaster/Guildmistress
This person is in charge of the day-to-day management of the group, including paperwork and financials. They are chosen by vote of all voting guild members every five years, and can be removed and replaced by a 3/4 vote of those members at any time. There are no term limits on this position, but it generally has a high turnover, with people serving multiple terms but not consecutively.

Captain-Commander
Also an elected position, the Captain is the leader of the group when it comes to matters of deployment and performance. They work closely with the Captain-Teacher to assign smaller units, decide who goes where if deployed, and who leaders of small units will be. The Captain-Commander has the final say if they disagree. Captain-Coammanders are elected for life unless they choose to step down or are replaced by a 7/8 vote of members.

Captain-Teacher
Not an elected position, but rather chosen by the Captain-Commander and the current Guildmaster/Guildmistress, the Captain-Teacher is the leader of the group when it comes to matters of training. They work closely with the Captain-Commander to assign smaller units, decide who goes where if deployed, and who leaders of small units will be. The Captain-Commander has the final say if they disagree. Captain-Coammanders are selected for life unless they choose to step down or are removed by a 7/8 vote of members, at which time the Guildmaster/Guildmistress replaces them.

Lieutenant
Lieutenants are leaders chosen by the Captain-Commander and the Captain-Teacher to lead small guild units as they are deployed at the request of their customers. Lieutenants may serve just for one assignment, or have a semi-permanent group that they are regularly deployed with.

Marksman
The title of Marksman is honorary, and does not award the bearer any sort of official privileges, though they are highly respected inside and outside of the Guild. This title is awarded to those who meet a certain level of excellence with their bows, which is very hard to acheive.

Senator
The guild is large enough to have a sitting senator in the Galanthian government. This position is usually reserved for older or injured members who need a task that can't be in the field anymore.

Arrow
The name given to full-fledged, adult, voting members of the Guild.

Fletchling
The name given to young, or new, not yet fully invested members of the guild. They do not have voting privileges.

Aim True, Fly High, Strike Swiftly

The insignia of the guild are three crossed arrows, point up, on a background of Galanthis's distinctive scales.

Aw, fletchling. I love it.   They sound like an interesting group. I love that betrayal is so taboo, and that they will never fight on opposite sides.
