Sweeping the Ruined Outpost Dugeons Report

General Summary

The merchant Osgar and miner Cuthred nearly jumped out of their skin, but the gnome captive Cyrr, seemed amused. He must have snuck out and grabbed some armor and weapons from the bandit bodies. Though he had equipped himself, everything looked too big for him to wear or wield, like a child play-acting. He started by asking the companions if they were new at this. Getting strange looks he pointed out a debris trail on the floor near the collapsed section of the room. Taking a few minutes, he uncovered and pulled out a chest. Taking only a few seconds to examine the chest, he said he had already unlocked it, impossible if he had just dragged it out.   While the companions rested for a bit, Cyrr took stock of the items in the uncovered chest. Elyot then mentioned the two doors below that they were unable to open and suggested Cyrr tag along to help. Wanting a bit of revenge on his captors, the gnome scout agreed.   Finishing their rest, the again descended through the secret passage and brought Cyrr to the locked doors, after a few minutes, he had them both opened. Behind each door were piles of weapons and armor, along with black cloaks with an eye of fire sewn into them. Elyot noted that it looked like they were stockpiling to outfit an army.   Heading back to the room outside the gnoll lair, they opened the three southern doors. While the first opened into an empty 10 by 10 chamber, opening the second door, they heard a clang of metal from the hallway behind them as the saw that behind the door was a stone wall. They had triggered some kind of trap. The third door had a long hallway behind it leading south, with a side passage to the southeast. Heading due south they turned right and followed another hallway to the crypts. Four ghouls leaped out to attack, but the party quickly dispatched them. They altar in the crypt displayed demonic symbolism, and while most of the burial niches were empty, the ones that weren't had been opened and ransacked, probably by the ghouls based on the gnawed bones.   One of the southern crypts had a narrow tunnel dug into it. Here, they found the ghoul nest and their treasures, with a trail of gold coins leading west into the ghoul tunnels. The tunnels quickly became very small and cramped, and would not be navigable in armor. In fact, the tunnels looked like they twisted and turned frequently. It would be easy to get lost in them.   Back to the southern passage, they descended the south stairs and found a pool with a gigantic crayfish, and although they took some damage from the monstrous creature, they dispatched it as well. The center of the pool was a well leading down. Balan found a small pin and a scrollcase near the lip of the well. He almost lost the pin, but Elyot was able to grab it with mage hand before it sunk into the depths.   Back north, they took the southeastern passage, which led to a doorway into an eastern passage, with another door on the northern wall. Investigating quickly, the eastern passage seemed to be a secret exit. Opening the northern door, they spied a contingent of guards to the north. As they engaged, the guards started a low hooting sound, likely alerting anyone in the vicinity. Although they took a few lumps, Adrea's healing spirit was able to mitigate most of the damage. Moving further into the chamber, they had but seconds after seeing the second set of guards, obviously hastily dressed, before the guard's sergeant bellowed out his orders to engage.
