The Lady in White

"I am not sure whether to be impressed or worried by her skill at avoiding identification. All I have are theories lacking concrete evidence, except to what she has been responsible for. I hate not being able to pin the crimes on a name."
— Janus Templar, Lyran Intelligence Corps
Many of the groups who were questioned about their involvement in the White Reach Incident either had airtight reasons for being there, or cited information passed to them from an as-yet-unidentified individual. In every one of these cases there was no method of active communication, the individual would contact them first and left no means to get in touch. Lyran Intelligence refers to this person as "The Lady In White", after their assumed gender and choice of clothing. In almost all instances, the Lady would be dressed in white clothing ranging from a loose robe to well-tailored suits which were of a style no longer in fashion.

Accounts vary on exactly what this person looks like physically, although the variations match the usual trouble with eyewitness accounts. What is more striking is the Lady's ability to access information they should not have access to, and using this information to bribe or blackmail others into following her lead. Evidence of the Lady's involvement in covert affairs leads back as far as 2945, though it is hard to be certain whether or not the same person was involved in all cases. There are a number of notable influences which Lyran Intelligence has records of, and many others which were filled in by records acquired from the the Federated Suns' Department of Military Intelligence.

Carnwath

During the aftermath of the Rysel Corporate War evidence was uncovered the Lady in White had been assisting Jacob Reiseille in hiding wealth from his company. An amount extrapolated to be multiple billions of C-Bills went missing and could not be accounted for, not even when considering the cost of the BattleMechs involved in the war. It is suspected Sorvetz Reisel had more detailed information about the matter, but this was not readily apparent at the time. Later evidence discovered during the White Reach Incident suggested this money was used to fund the expansion of The Ouroboros Sun into a significant threat.

Shiloh

In the late thirtieth century, a woman whose description was consistent with the Lady in White was spotted operating within the Free Worlds League in the area around Shiloh. According to reports, she meeting with representatives from "The Atlantis Foundation" about medical supplies. Two days after the reports about the meeting, an infantry squad hit the city the meeting had taken place in with cover from two Medium-class BattleMechs. The identity of these mercenaries has been difficult to determine, but their goal seemed to be the Foundation's building. After the attack, it was determined there were significant casualties among the Foundation personnel, both in confirmed dead and those who were simply missing. Lyran Intelligence has since come to believe the attack was targeted specifically at the Lady in White, but the reasons remain unknown for now.

Port Moseby

During the fall of 3023, the Draconis Combine had reports of Lyran mercenaries seeming to make probing attacks against their defenses. In truth, this was a contract unsanctioned by the Mercenary Review Board and put together an anonymous client. The mercenaries hit a small settlement which seemingly had no strategic interest aside from drawing the Fourth Legion of Vega into combat. However, records recovered a decade later suggested the target was a facility being run by the Lady in White to train and arm members of the Ouroboros Sun. The goal failed, while the Fourth Legion was censured for allowing mercenaries to strike with seeming impunity. The disgrace would be a driving factor for their involvement in the White Reach Incident.

ComStar Authorization Required
The last report chronologically involving the Lady in White was only partially recovered by Lyran Intelligence, but a full debriefing was acquired by agents of ComStar's Rho branch. These reports indicate the Lady in White (whose name was present but redacted) was responsible for the involvement of a half-dozen mercenary commands being inspired to fight for supposed buried secrets on the planet. She was also an inspiration for Elizabeth Wallings to start her rebellion, putting her in contact with a number of potential assets. A couple others, such as the Oathsworn, were fronts for elements of the Ouroboros Sun which would eventually be folded back into the main organization. After several battles which severely depleted the Sun's military force, the Lady in White attempted to retreat to a hidden base elsewhere in the system with the commander of the Ouroboros Sun. Priam Company was hired to seize control of this base and its records, but the Rho agent was able to infiltrate the efforts and scrub the database of most identifying information. The Lady's death was confirmed, but her body was not recovered from the site before a "fusion reactor accident" caused the installation to be destroyed.
