Fourth Legion of Vega Organization in White Reach | World Anvil

Fourth Legion of Vega

Overview

To many of the other units of the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery, the Legion of Vega holds a dim reputation as a dumping ground for malcontents, misfits, and those otherwise without honor. It was specifically created for this purpose, and it showed with how they were deployed. The only problem was how they continued to survive despite the odds. The Fourth Regiment similarly was given nothing but "make work" assignments following the Fourth Succession War, but for a variety of reasons the Fourth Battalion was dispatched to White Reach in the hopes of disrupting matters for the Federated Commonwealth. The commanding officer of this battalion, Chu-sa Agati Shira, also had other reasons to be involved.

White Reach Operations

The battalion arrived January 23rd, 3032, and almost immediately dug into position with the creation of Sakura Firebase. On discovering the extent of mercenary outfit existence on the planet, the Fourth began scouting out the defenses around the capitol and Priam Company as a prelude to an invasion of the city. After numerous clashes, the decision was made to try a more forceful approach and see if the mercenaries were able to resist the advance. On March 4, 3032, the Legion of Vega attacked Minos Firebase as a spearhead of an invasion into the city itself. When the mercenary company managed to push the assault force back, the invasion plan was scrapped and changed. The forces instead began harrying the mercenaries and keeping them off-balance until a smaller assault force could secure access through Antas Pass on March 17, 3032. With this, the Chu-sa began to make plans for a much more intense invasion of the capitol, using a foothold inside the city's limits and a split of other forces to keep the defenders from offering a focused defense.

After a brief engagement with Priam Company at Cypra Wetlands and losing an auxiliary base in the southern Pelea flood plains, Chu-sa Agati opted to maneuver her command Lance into the city and seize control. The militia were unprepared to deal with the push, and though they were able to quickly regroup a few token units the attack was successful. While this was going on, a smaller detachment was sent to keep Priam Company occupied and unable to render assistance. The Senates were confined to buildings until control of the capital was solidified, and hopes of successfully capturing the planet for the Coordinator began to be shared.

When Commander Sethan realized the extent of the threat, Priam Company entered the First District of the city without authorization to engage Chu-sa Agati's forces. In the intense battle which followed, the mercenaries were able to disable Chu-sa Agati's BattleMech and push out the survivors. As a captive, Agati refused to negotiate or speak with her captors, until learning a follow-up strike had smashed most of the survivors at Sakura Base. Commander Sethan was uncertain of what happened to the survivors from the First District battle, as those survivors encountered the Harbingers and were smashed apart as well. After a long negotiation, Agati Shira was convinced to leave the planet rather than be turned over to the local government as a prisoner.
