The Ouroboros Sun

"The Inner Sphere has been broken for far too long, and it falls to us to mend it. Slowly, and surely, the disease which has taken root must be excised and humanity made to know the cost of their mistakes. I have failed, but I leave the success of this task in your hands. For the dawn of a better era, one untainted by the petty squabbling of so-called 'Successors'."
— Jacob Reiseille
Few know who the Ouroboros Sun are, as an organization, and they much prefer it this way. This secrecy is crucial to their success, as they hope to cause the end of the Inner Sphere as it currently exists. While this might sound alarming to many, members of the Sun would be quick to point out the current status quo is hardly worthy of being maintained. The Successor States war with each other almost constantly, and these 'Succession Wars' have caused a great loss of technology and the degradation of general civility between people. Rather than one bright beacon of humanity there are five political powers vying for dominance with little regard for those caught under their feet. This must change, and the Ouroboros Sun is prepared to bring about this change by any means necessary.

Of course, many residents of the various Successor States would certainly agree with the spirit of these goals while being horrified at the nature of the work in order to bring that goal about. The Sun is not adverse to anything up to (and including) mass murder to achieve their goals, as any acts are justified when considering the salvation of humanity. Their leader, known primarily by her position as 'the Architect of the New Dawn' has seen fit to create several minor localized disasters just to conceal the current location and strength of the Sun.

After all, they're still being hunted.

Swatting at Shadows

"Fifty years and still can't forget about us. I'd be impressed if it wasn't so maddening to keep losing safehouses to that menace."
— The Architect of the New Dawn
For fifty years, Sorvetz Reisel has been hell-bent on making sure the Ouroboros Sun is completely eradicated. It is the last remaining part of his father's mad dream left active, and as such it has to be stopped before any damage can be wrought to the Inner Sphere. As age has rendered Sorvetz an invalid in most ways, this drive has led to him taking extreme measures in the pursuit of the goal. One of these incidents included targeted arson of buildings on Port Moseby, though there were enough layers of obfuscation to keep it from being obvious to outsiders. Another time involved an "industrial accident" which left a square kilometer uninhabitable due to chemicals which had settled into the ground. While this might seem excessive, or even criminal, much like his opponents Sorvetz feels it is necessary to use whatever tools are necessary to wipe out the Sun.

The New Dawn

Warning: Spoilers for future fiction writing within. You have been warned.
Unknown to the public, or even most of the members, the Architect of the New Dawn is a member of another organization which has long-term goals similar to the Sun's. Precentor Eleanor Farell has corrupted the original goal of Jacob Reiseille to another end, and with the formation of the Ouroboros Sun she has the means and resources to pull it off. The trick has been keeping ahead of her opposite number in Sorvetz, and keeping others from discovering her true affiliation. This consumes quite a bit of her time, therefore she prepared Xemira to take over running the organization with only an occasional correction from Eleanor.

The original goal Jacob Reiseille envisioned was to tear down the ruling Great Houses and install rulers more in line with his personal vision of "worthy leaders". To do this, he caused a large portion of pre-Succession Era technology left to Rysel Industries to disappear into various facilities built in places available to him at the time. This included a large number of artificial wombs and gene manipulation tools. Initially, these tools had been stored until they could be reproduced with contemporary factory methods, but Jacob had other plans for utilizing them: to craft a ruling class.

After his death, the Architect pivoted these goals to instead set about producing a figurehead to lead in her stead so she could investigate other uses for the technology which had landed in her lap. Once Eleanor happened across a small mention of Blanching with regards to White Reach, she began to hatch a plan to seed the contaminating compounds into other inhabited planets. Doing this would require a considerable amount of time, and so she set about using the initial goals of the Sun as a smokescreen for developing this other path to the same result.

Currently, the plan is at high risk since it is entering a crucial phase of development. Eleanor's scientists have managed to isolate the contaminating compound, and are working on a way to introduce it more broadly into other ecosystems. Since this must be done on White Reach, the current issue of mercenaries searching for a Star League cache has the potential to set her back at least a decade. Thus she mobilized the Oathsworn and several pliable others with promises of wealth and power in the new world, to try to stop problems before they can develop. Should anyone stumble upon her operation, it could easily fall apart.

History

"Sorvetz Reisel, I understand there has been a great deal of internal problems within your corporation. However, investigations into your assets have turned up an alarming amount of discrepencies. Until now, you have blamed these entirely on your father's negligence. This committee believes you are hiding something from us, but cannot quite determine what... or why."
— Excerpt from Court Documents, 2983
Originally, the Ouroboros Sun was gathered by Jacob Reiselle to undertake a special assignment As it started becoming apparent he might actually lose the battle with his son Sorvetz, he wanted his project to continue after his death. Even as he sought to bring most of his military power to a facility on Carnwath, Jacob tasked a handful of individuals to move funds and equipment elsewhere within his sphere of influence. The primary goal was to hide the Ouroboros Sun from those who were after him, and cultivate everything needed to bring it about regardless of what happened to him. Three weeks after the organization began moving the indicated equipment and funds, the Battle of Loup-Masque happened and Jacob was found dead within his cell.

Despite the intent to avoid connections to the organization, Jacob's ego was quite unchecked in his late months and the symbol they used to identify themselves was a variation of his: a serpentine dragon swallowing its own tail within a sunburst. This allowed Sorvetz to track them down more than once when the symbol was located. The current leader of the Sun has diversified to hire mercenaries to cover her tracks, and to conceal the breadth of her available military might under "pirate groups" active across the border between the Federated Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine.

In late 3029 leadership was been transferred to Xemira Reiseille, following a raid on Ouroboros Sun assets within Combine space. Xemira chose to deal with yakuza families to cover the tracks left behind, before moving the bulk of their operations to White Reach. This also brought the Sun into contact with Sho-sa Agati Shira from the Fourth Legion of Vega. These connections have helped the Sun acquire military hardware and spare parts for their BattleMechs.

Disbandment

"I close my eyes and have nightmares of other cells of those damn fools popping up outside my grasp. But I wake, and remember that is about as likely as me standing up to walk again. Or managing without a catheter."
— Sorvetz Reisel
During the last few weeks of what is known as "The White Reach Incident", elements of mercenary outfits known as Priam Company and the Harbingers took part in rooting out the last remnants of the Ouroboros Sun from White Reach. While there are possibly some remnants at large, they now lack the machinery and resources to be more than an irritation instead of a threat. For the short-term future, their existence is not of primary concern as much as there is the need to secure silence out of the mercenaries involved in the matter.
