John's father sent him to page for King Geoff when he was 15. They got along well and Geoff offered him a position on the King's Guard when he turned 20. John was happy to accept.
History
Ross and John met while John was squiring at Hadleigh Castle. They became friends easily and Ross was part of why Geoffrey offered John a position with the King's Guard. Ross trusts John implicitly and eagerly added him to his personal staff after his coronation.

Aubry met John when he first started squiring at Hadleigh Castle, just before Aubry herself left to squire at Grimm Castle. Upon her return as a full knight of the realm, John's been more than a little bit smitten with her and tends to fall all over himself when she's around. Aubry thought it was cute at first, but she's gotten tired of it now and is hoping he'll get over it as a schoolboy crush.
